Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and the business that runs Masar Deutsch ("we", "us") for using Masar Deutsch (مسار). You accept them by ticking the agreement box when you create your account, and again when the app asks you to accept a new version; we keep a record of the version you accepted and when. The contract between us is made electronically, in Arabic or English as you choose, and you can read, save or print these pages at any time. Please read them with our Privacy policy and Refund and cancellation policy.

In short

1. Who can use Masar Deutsch

You must be at least 18 years old and able to make a binding contract. Under Egyptian law full legal capacity begins at 21. If you are under 21, a paid plan must be bought, or approved, by your parent or legal guardian; if a purchase was made by someone under 21 without that approval, the parent or guardian may ask us to cancel it and we will refund it in full. If you use Masar Deutsch for an organisation (for example a school), you confirm you may accept these terms for it.

9. Certificates of Completion; no official level

Masar Deutsch is a learning course. Our levels (Foundations, A0, A1, A2, B1, B2) describe our course content, which we planned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in mind. We are not an exam board, and we do not award official CEFR levels, official certificates or qualifications. The course prepares you for exams in the style of the Goethe-Zertifikat exams (A1 Start Deutsch 1, A2, B1 and B2). Our practice exams are written by us in that style; they are not official exams and do not copy official exam papers, and we are not affiliated with, connected with, approved by or endorsed by the Goethe-Institut, telc, ÖSD, TestDaF, the Council of Europe or any other exam body. Results of the Masar Deutsch Placement Test and other scores are a guide to choose where to start: a placement result, not a certificate. The Masar Deutsch Placement Test is our own test; it is not connected with, approved by or equivalent to any exam board's placement test, and we do not promise any exam result.

Masar Deutsch Certificate of Completion. Certificates are paused at present while we strengthen the final test; no certificate is issued until they reopen, and the progress you record meanwhile still counts. When they are open, the rule is as follows. When our server has recorded that you completed every unit of a level (for A0, every Foundations module) and that you passed one of that level's mock exams at the practice pass mark of 60 per cent, you can ask for a Certificate of Completion for that level in the app (Me, Certificates). For the exam, only the Reading and Listening parts count, marked by our server; Writing and Speaking stay self-assessed. The certificate shows the name on your account, the level, the units completed, your best level-exam score, the date and a unique id, and it states: "This is not an official CEFR certificate or an exam result from any exam board." It confirms that you completed our course; it does not certify your level of German, and it is not proctored. Each certificate has a public check page at the address printed on it, which shows only your initials (or your full name, if you choose), the level, the date and whether it is valid or revoked.

The work behind a certificate must be your own. We may revoke a certificate that was issued by mistake or obtained by misuse (for example answers sent by a program, someone else doing the course for you, or a breach of section 6); its check page then shows it as revoked. You can delete a certificate yourself at any time; its check page then stops working. See the Privacy policy for what is stored.

10. Availability

We work to keep Masar Deutsch available and correct, but it may sometimes be slow, unavailable or contain errors, for example during maintenance or problems at our providers. We will fix errors within a reasonable time when we learn of them.

11. Suspension and ending

12. Our responsibility to you

13. Law and disputes

The law that governs these terms will be stated here before paid sales open. If there is a problem, please contact us first at [email protected]; most problems can be solved quickly. The courts for disputes that cannot be solved will be stated here before paid sales open. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may also use its courts. In Egypt you can also contact the Consumer Protection Agency.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We will tell you in the app or by email before an important change takes effect. A change never reduces, for a period you have already paid for, the levels or the access period you bought, and never changes the price you paid. When these terms change materially, the app asks you to accept the new version before you continue. If you do not accept the change, you may stop using Masar Deutsch and ask for a refund of the unused part of your paid access period.

15. Contact
